This workshop is an introduction to the basics of spinning.

This workshop will give you enough information and practical experience to give you the confidence to spin your own yarn. We will sort a sheep fleece, card it into rolags, use a drop spindle and spinning wheel. We will also examine and use different fibres and fleeces and a variety of other spinning equipment.
Spinning is a rhythmic and meditative process which can be a calming experience that is soothing for the soul.

This course is suitable for beginners. Cost £36 including materials, equipment and refreshments.

Creative Spinning Workshop

Design and spin your own unique yarn using a variety of techniques and fibres.

Experiment and be creative with a variety of techniques and fibres to produce wonderful original yarn to use in your knitting, crochet and weaving. We will spin, card, add slubs and beads, core-spin, overspin and ply different fibres, fabrics and other materials together to create interesting textured and colourful yarns.

We will examine different fibres and discover their characteristics, experiment with different animal fleeces and vegetable fibres including a variety of sheep wool, alpaca, silk, cotton and flax.

This workshop is for those who can spin using a spinning wheel and/or drop spindle and wish to develop their skills. Not suitable for beginners.

Cost £36 including materials, equipment and refreshments.

Immerse yourself into three days of traditional and experimental spinning.

This course is designed around your individual preferences and needs. We will cover all the basics and have time to develop your skills over the three days.

Day one - You will gain enough information and practical experience to give you the confidence to spin your own yarn. We will sort a fleece, card it into rolags, use a drop spindle and spinning wheel. We will also examine and use different fibres and fleeces and a variety of other spinning equipment.

Day two - Experiment and be creative with a variety of techniques and fibres to produce wonderful original yarn to use in your knitting, crochet and weaving. We will spin, card, add slubs and beads, core-spin, overspin and ply different fibres, fabrics and other materials together to create interesting textured and colourful yarns.

We will examine different fibres and discover their characteristics, experiment with different animal fleeces and vegetable fibres including a variety of sheep wool, alpaca, silk, cotton and flax.

Day three - Developing the techniques already learnt and further skills of your choice. Learn how to control the width and twist of your yarn while spinning. Try out a variety of plying methods, including, 2-ply, 3-ply, 4-ply, cable and chain plying.

This course is suitable for beginners and for those who already know how to spin, on a spindle or a spinning wheel.

Cost £130 for three sessions including materials, equipment and refreshments.
