Walk in the path of ancient weavers and learn the way to make the best kind of heddle using strong string and a stick. Learn carpet weaver’s knots to make a velvety surface pile. I specialise in leno weave on the table loom and I will pass on this knowledge to you, so that you can make beautiful lacy shawls and scarves.

Learn this is wonderful method of making strong, decorative woven bands for bag straps, belts and edging.

We shall look at examples of tablet weaving and the different methods of creating woven straps. It is also known as tablet weaving or card weaving. Using a warping mill and your choice of colours you will be shown how to make a warp. You will make the device to weave with and learn how to manipulate the threads to make sophisticated patterns. Finally we shall make a fringe.

Inkle Loom Weaving Workshop

Learn how to make strong, decorative woven bands for bag straps, belts and edging using an inkle loom.

You will be shown how to warp up an inkle loom and then use it to weave on. We willl examine examples of inkle loom weaving and the different methods of creating woven bands. We will weave and manipulate the threads to make patterns and produce a variety of samples to take home. This workshop willl give you the confidence and knowledge to weave using an inkle loom independently at home.

Tapestry Weaving Workshop

Weave your own woven sampler with a variety of tapestry stitches, textures and finishes.

In this workshop we will thread up a tapestry frame, create a woven sampler with a variety of tapestry stitches including, interlocking, slits, soumak and pick & pick and rya knots. Your sampler will be completed using a fringing technique of your choice. Making this woven sampler will give you all the skills for you to then design and create your own larger woven tapestry at home.

Weaving Summer School

Three days to immerse yourself in the wonders of weaving.

This Weaving Course is designed for everyone who wants to explore and develop their weaving skills. You will be supplied with all the materials and equipment you need but you may like to bring along some of your own bits and pieces of fabrics, threads and yarn. Bring along pictures you can find that inspire you, these may be from magazines, post cards, photos or sketches. You might like to bring a note book and camera to record the processes during the workshops.

Day one - we will be spend time exploring different techniques and finding out about the strengths of the specialist looms. 
Day two - we shall decide upon colours and textures for your own woven design which can be a cushion cover, tapestry wall hanging, scarf, strong braid or woven fabric. 
Day three - you will continue to develop your own project. For the wall hanging you will be using a variety of materials fabrics, threads and fleece to produce a textured piece. For a scarf or cushion you will warp up a table loom or box loom with cotton or woollen threads. The strong braid is made using an inkle loom or with the Egyptian tablet weaving technique.

Cost £130 for three sessions, including materials, equipment and refreshments.
